Anger Management TechniquesWhen you get angry, do you tend to lose your cool completely?
Do you injure yourself or other people? Do you end up causing harm, whether physical, mental, or emotional?
If you struggle with anger, it is important for you to learn helpful anger management techniques in order to get the raging emotions under control.
The best technique for anger management is to take a time out. Too many of us have a habit of bursting out in emotion before we think.
An angry person is much better off taking a few minutes to calm down and think logically. Ever heard the age-old adage of counting to 100 when angry?
Decrease or increase this number depending on your level of emotion.
Sometimes, a time-out will not curb the urge to explode. On these occasions, it is best to get out. Get outside, go somewhere else, get away from the problem or person.
If you are at the office, take a walk to the break room or go outside for some fresh air. If you are home, head to the bedroom for some quiet time or walk it off in the driveway.
Exercise is beneficial for controlling anger. A forceful cardio work out such as dancing, running, or kick boxing is a great way to get those emotions in check and the anger out.
Calming exercises such as Pilates or Yoga may or may not have the same effect.
Anger management techniques are really all about learning how to control emotions followed by a means of expressing those emotions.
You cannot expect to ignore the anger or the problem. You have to find a way to express the emotion, whether that is through writing, art, music, exercise, etc.
As much as possible, try not to express your anger to another person but in a way that does no one else harm.
